Boreas artwork was made for a prospective commissioned mural project for The Nordic Library at Athens - a research library that is administered by the four Nordic archeological schools in Greece (Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark). The mural idea is currently put on hold. The original artwork will, however, be used on merch for the 30 years anniversary Jubilee of the Nordic Library.
Inspired by the existing logo of the 30-year-old Nordic Library, I have chosen to reimagine its original inspiration from the frieze of The Tower of Winds, in a fresh and personal way. The use of Boreas in the current Nordic Library logo was and still is a very good vehicle for communicating the old connections between the North and Athens.
I wanted to involve the window and balcony elements in the overall design in a way that would be in harmony with the artwork, without ‘breaking’ the composition. The mark-making that symbolizes the books echoes the rythm of the windows and balcony blinds in a way that complements the canvas of the wall.
