This series of screenprints belongs to a handful of sets that I worked on as part of my artistic residency at Kypseli screenprinting studio, in Athens. I chose to turn my attention for a moment to the spaces surrounding ancient monuments, as an acknowledgement of the spatial positioning of ancient temples, theaters, and other kinds of structures.
In this case, the ‘Neighbourhood Wisdom’ applies to the wisdom sought by ancient Greeks from Epidavros, which had deep connections with Athens.
The group of trees depicted in this series of prints are found surrounding the ancient theatre of Epidavros. Thus, this is one of the works that stem from my personal photographic references taken on field trips.
As usual in my work process, the prints started off with an initial open plan that later on during the printing process took a turn of their own, depending on whether to print all or just some of the layers.
